“One of the greatest players”

Niklas Kronwall works at the Detroit Red Wings.
He is now hailed by two of the team’s talents – Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider.
– It is one of the biggest players, says Raymond to Sportbibeln.

The previous player Niklas Kronwall is a big name in Hockey Sweden, but also outside our borders. The Swede spent 15 seasons in the NHL and is a well-known name in the hockey world. Kronwall is best known for his tough tackles as a player.

Raymond’s Tribute

Kronwall was one of the players who helped make history when Sweden won both Olympic and World Cup gold in the same year, 2006. He also took part and took silver in the World Cup in 2003 and the Olympic Games in 2014. There were also two SM golds with Djurgården, 2000 and 2001.
Kronwall spent all 15 NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, and in 2008 he became the Stanley Cup champion with the club.

Today, Kronwall works as a European player developer/development coach for Detroit, which he has been doing since last season. In the past, Niklas has also acted as an advisor to the Red Wings’ general manager. Through his role at the club, Kronwall has encountered most of the team’s players and great talents over the years. Among other things, the Detroit Swede Lucas Raymond.
– Kronwall is one of the biggest players. When I got drafted, I talked to him a lot, and we still do a lot. He’s a great guy to get to know so it’s been really cool, says Raymond to Sportbibeln.

Seider’s favorite hit

Someone whose playing style has been compared a lot to Kronwall’s is Moritz Seider, because of his physical play. Seider has belonged to the Red Wings organization since 2019. The German was also loaned to Rögle in the 20/21 season, and has encountered Kronwall a lot.
– He is definitely a name that you always remember. I got to know him well when he retired. I played in the AHL and he was down there quite a bit. We got to know each other quite well, and of course it’s a big name in the hockey world, says Seider about Kronwall.

The 42-year-old has previously claimed that he does not teach today’s players to tackle like him when he attends training sessions. But despite that, Seider is a top class physical player. It must be a coincidence.

Do you have a favorite Kronwall tackle?
– The one that always comes to mind is the tackle on (Nikita) Kucherov against Tampa. It is one of countless hits he has, of course, says Seider to Sportbibeln.
