One of the easiest raids in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is suddenly ultra-difficult

The Dawntrail expansion has gone live in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV and there are some side effects that no one expected. For example, a raid for level 50 players from 2014 is suddenly no longer possible.

What kind of raid is this?

  • Patch 2.3 in July 2014 brought the “Syrcus Tower” to the MMORPG.
  • It is a raid for level 50 players and includes 5 boss fights and two encounters.
  • Normally people today run through it in 15 minutes because they are too strong to pay attention to the mechanics of the boss fights. But that is different now.

    No more protection from a boss’s death attack

    What is the problem now? The second to last boss in the dungeon is called Amon. He has a move called “Curtain Call” which will result in an instant KO if you don’t protect yourself from him properly.

    This instant death can usually be avoided by hiding behind three ice blocks that spawn on random players before using his lethal ability. So normally Amon will turn 3 players into ice blocks and they will act as a shield.

    But with Dawntrailer, a bug has apparently appeared that causes players to freeze, but the protection function is no longer available. So the 24 players in the raid have no choice but to take the full damage and die.

    Is there a solution? As PCGamer knows, resourceful MMORPG players have found two ways to bypass the unkillable boss:

  • A healer lets himself be killed before the ability is activated, is revived, but only accepts the revival after the death ability is over – but that is quite a tiring plan to carry out
  • Another option is to strengthen yourself with buffs and food so that you can simply use brute force to defeat Amon before he can even use his deadly spell
