Peyman Kia, sentenced to life imprisonment for aggravated espionage on behalf of Russia, appeals to the Court of Appeal. Peyman Kia was convicted on January 19 in the Stockholm district court of aggravated espionage and unauthorized position with secret information for having spied on behalf of Russia. The penalty was life imprisonment.

Now the 42-year-old is appealing the verdict. In the appeal, which was submitted to the Svea Court of Appeal on January 25, his lawyer Anton Strand requests that Kia be acquitted, or alternatively sentenced to a lighter sentence.

Peyman Kia’s younger brother Payam Kia, 35, was sentenced in the same case to nine years and ten months in prison. He also commits serious espionage.
