Twister was a huge hit in the cinema in the 1990s. Why should the concept of the disaster film no longer work three decades later? Apparently the people in charge at Warner Bros. and Universal also thought so and, together with Amblin, brought a new Twister film to the cinema.
One came out gripping action blockbusterwhich features two sought-after stars and expands the title to include the plural: Twister becomes Twisters. Around six months after the cinema release you can watch the stormy update on WOW with a streaming subscription. Previously the film was only available to rent or purchase.

Is Twisters a sequel? A remake? Or a reboot? The answer is somewhere in between and honestly it doesn’t matter since the film doesn’t really position itself towards any larger continuity and potential mythology. The constant is the hurricanes that sweep through US areas.

At the center of the story is the tornado hunter Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who experiences a traumatic blow of fate right at the beginning of the film. She then renounces tornado hunting and flees to New York. Many years later, she is still drawn back to her hometown, Oklahoma, and to the storms.
There she meets Tyler (Glen Powell), who calls himself the Tornado Wrangler and oscillates somewhere between a completely irresponsible adrenaline junkie and a completely insufferable YouTube influencer. Contrary to all expectations, the two actually find some things in common in their passion for hurricanes.
New action blockbuster: Twisters impresses with the star power of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell
Little has changed in the basic concept: tornadoes and that Tension between two characterswho actually can’t stand each other, but still have a deep connection to each other. Taking the place of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton from the original are Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell.
Both have caused a stir in Hollywood several times in recent years. Edgar-Jones impressed in two successful film adaptations of novels: Normal People and The Song of the Crayfish. Powell turned out to be a scene-stealer in Top Gun: Maverick and recently triumphed in the cinema with Where the Lie Falls and A Killer Romance.
Twisters certainly has a lot of star power, but what about the action? Last but not least, director Lee Isaac Chung is better known for quiet, thoughtful dramas like Minari. His production cannot quite keep up with the power of its predecessor. Still, Twisters delivers some thrilling action sequences.
