One of the best westerns of the last 20 years with Russell Crowe in an incredibly nasty role

One of the best westerns of the last 20 years

If you’re even remotely into the Western genre, you should fire up the Flimmerkiste tonight. Death Train to Yuma is on TV and it’s really tough. Here Christian Bale engages in an epic psychological duel with Russell Crowe, who plays an extremely vicious and cunning villain.

That’s what Death Train to Yuma is about

Dan Evans (Christian Bale) lives with his family on a farm in poor conditions and is suddenly torn from his peaceful life. For $200 he should help to bring the feared outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to the distant train station. Together with a small group, the farmer sets off for Contention to catch the 3:10 train to Yuma.

But unfortunately there is also Wade’s brutal gang, who want to free their boss and are on the group’s trail. Wade, for his part, tries to test his escort’s limits and figure out how to escape. In doing so, something unfolds extremely exciting back and forth between Dan Evans and the clever criminaluntil the inevitable showdown occurs.

Russell Crowe takes no prisoners on Death Train to Yuma

Death Train to Yuma thrives on the tension that unfolds between Christian Bale and Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe in particular shines in Death Train to Yuma in one of his meanest roles. He freely asserts that he is a completely bad person and doesn’t shy away from even the most unscrupulous tricks. Even in captivity, he does everything he can to manipulate the people around him and doesn’t even think about showing mercy.

On the other hand, Christian Bale is of course no less talented actor. The two characters spy on each other, get to know each other, almost become friends and yet are enemies of each other. But that wasn’t all: Death Train to Yuma is excellently cast, right down to the smallest supporting roles.
