One of the best weapons in Remnant 2 can be found almost at the very beginning, but you have to sacrifice loot for it

The new co-op shooter Remnant 2 features tons of cool guns. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus discovered a crossbow early on, with which he gambled through the whole game. The weapon was simply too good with too many advantages.

What is this weapon? The Crossbow of Sorrow is a handgun and uses primary ammo. Strictly speaking, it’s a “boss weapon,” although you don’t have to craft it directly with McCabe’s boss loot.

You shoot bolts with the crossbow. The magazine only holds 5 shots, but its special feature allows you to fire up to 15 shots in a row without having to reload.

The damage is with an upgrade of +7 at a DPS value of 450 (body) or over 800 (vulnerable spots). This makes the weapon by far the strongest weapon I’ve tested so far.

The only other weapon that is similarly powerful and that you are guaranteed to get sooner is obtained through Founder Ford’s Secret Box.

This is what the Crossbow of Sorrow can do: The weapon’s special mod is called “funeral speech.” The effect consists of several individual parts:

  • you recall fired bolts, which can charge your magazine and even the reserve (up to 10 rounds in the magazine)
  • recalled bolts damage the target and all targets on their way back
  • for each bolt recalled, you heal for 2% of your maximum health
  • The weapon not only deals enormous damage, it also heals you and with the right items, the mod can be recharged almost immediately after use. This makes the Crossbow of Sorrows ideal against any boss.

The perfect conversion for the weapon is Dead Silence, which increases damage on sustained aim. The only downside: the bolts are projectiles that are relatively slow. You may have bigger problems against very agile targets.

Here is some gameplay of the weapon – with a hidden secret room in Yaesha:

Get Crossbow of Sorrow in Remnant 2 – Here’s how

Where can I find the crossbow? You can basically get the Crossbow of Sorrow after one of the first story bosses. In Yaesha, the world of Pan, you will meet the boss “Kaeula’s shadow.”

Tip: the shadow is weak against fire damage and you should look where red flowers grow on the water. These indicate where you can move without having to wade through the water.

Defeating the shadow rewards you with the Tear of Kaeula ring, which increases your relic charge by 2. You then have to exchange this with Meidre at the Mottled Glade in the Far Forest.

When talking to Meidre, it doesn’t matter what you choose during the test. You just have to have the ring with you. Meidre then asks you where you got the ring from. If you offer the nymph to give her the jewel, she will give you the crossbow in exchange. Unfortunately, this does not apply to other players in your game.

If you’re already at Meidre, you should take the opportunity to unlock the Blood Moon Shrine and use Blood Moon Essences. You’ll even get a secret reward.

What do I have to consider? In Remnant 2, chance determines which world you get to visit first. For me it was Yaesha, which is why I found the Crossbow of Sorrow right at the beginning and was able to upgrade it so quickly.

If you want the crossbow, it is recommended to choose Yaesha directly as the second world. You can unlock all worlds after your visit to the maze.
