In the latest Tarantino hit, Dalton also appears as a competitor to Steve McQueen (Damian Lewis).

Not only do the main characters want to escape, they plan the escape for hundreds.

That’s what Broken Chains is all about

The year is 1944 in Germany. Major Bartlett (Richard Attenborough) is in the Stalag Luft III prisoner of war camp with his fellow prisoners Hilts (Steve McQueen) and Hendley (James Garner). They have all escaped from other camps before, and even though the Stalag is considered completely escape-proof, the men are not deterred by it. They plan a mass breakout and break their chains.

Broken Chains was filmed at Bavaria Studios near Munich and is based on the novel The Great Escape by Paul Brickhill. The book is based on the actual escape from the Stalag Luft III prison camp. The events were of course adapted in Hollywood style, but in reality there was also a spectacular outbreak that required a lot of planning.
