One of the best thrillers of all time is becoming

Martin Scorsese’s classic thriller Cape Fear from 1991 is based on a novel by John D. MacDonald, which was made into a film in 1967 with Gregory Peck. Another version will be added soon in series formwhich was ordered by Apple TV+, according to TVLine.

Javier Bardem, known from films such as No Country for Old Men and Dune, will star in the Cape Fear lead role, which was iconically played by Robert De Niro in the Scorsese adaptation.

Cape Fear: Remake of a classic thriller on Apple TV+

In Cape Fear, a married lawyer couple has to fear for their lives when the notorious killer Max Cady (Bardem) is released from prison – and hunts them down mercilessly.

The ’90s thriller marked Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s seventh collaboration and cemented Max Cady as one of the greatest film antagonists of all time. The films received an impressive rating of 7.4 from the Moviepilot community, respectively 7.5 for the original A Bait for the Beast.

The upcoming Apple series version is being tackled by showrunner Nick Antosca (The Act), who at the same time wants to examine the obsession with true crime. However, it is doubtful that the series will be parodied as often as the Scorsese film version (including in The Simpsons and Rick and Morty).

Speaking of true crime: Bardem was just seen in the second season of the Netflix anthology Monster.
