With a new expansion, the strategy game Crusader Kings 3 on Steam (rating: 91% positive reviews) has received a new feature: 100 historical characters are new to the game. This includes William Wallace, the main character from Braveheart. In any case, Crusader Kings 3 is suitable for replaying some well-known series and films from the Middle Ages, including the TV series Vikings and the crusade epic Kingdom of Heaven.
This is the new feature in Crusader Kings 3: The feature came with the DLC “Road to Power” and is called “Echoes of History”.
A total of 100 historical characters were included in the game, mainly people who were well-known but were not rulers of their time, but artists, adventurers or theologians.
If one of the characters appears at the appropriate time in the game and in a province that the player controls directly or indirectly, the player is given the option of either switching to the character and starting with it as a landless adventure or he can switch the character into take up his court. He can also ignore them completely, but what madman would do that?
There is also the option to play “elaborate” campaigns with a few characters, such as the Spanish folk hero El Cid. “Historical sovereigns” have always been part of Crusader Kings: for years you have been able to direct the history of Sweden in the 9th century as Björn Eisenschild or try to unite England as Alfred the Great.
Crusader Kings 3 is considered one of the best strategy games on Steam and has received a strong, new expansion with “Road to Power” that many like:
William Wallace as a great warrior in Crusader Kings 3
How is William Wallace portrayed? The character who made Mel Gibson famous as Braveheart appears in Crusader Kings 3 between 1290 and 1296 in the province of Lennox.
William Wallace is a 5-star warrior, extremely strong training, and he is 20 years old. Wallace has characteristics such as brave, stubborn and vengeful. He is also strong and has the skill “Galant” – so he is already an outstanding military leader at the age of 20, if the other randomly generated values are even a little correct.
But there are no historical events surrounding the figure. Only a brief historical outline appears around it.
Warriors and Priests – Rogues and poets come to Crusader Kings 3
Are there any other stronger characters that appear like this? Yes, there are numerous exciting characters with strong starting stats, but none of them have the important “genetic factors” that players could use to shape the Kwisatz Haderach.
However, some of the figures start with “inspirations”, so you can set them up straight away to create an artifact with them if you have the necessary change.
Religious figures such as Hildegard von Bingen or Thomas Aquinas in particular have great starting values and are suitable for special roles in your court such as doctor, imperial priest or poet. The poet Dante Alighieri is also in the game.
In addition, Paradox traditionally attaches great importance to giving the more exotic regions in the game their own characters.
A character in the game, “John the Orphantotrophes,” apparently served author George RR Martin as a model for the masterful engineer Varys in “Game of Thrones.” He is also a great schemer in Crusader Kings 3.
There are also warrior figures such as the warrior-poet Egil Skallargrimsson, who appeared in Vestisland between 930 and 936 and who you can certainly use as a knight.

He appeared in my game, an outstandingly strong warrior with 35 combat power. But he died in his mid-30s from some absurd virus that he contracted. Not a very honorable end for a real Viking:
Vikings and Kingdom of Heaven are also possible scenarios
Which historical films can still be re-enacted? The first expansion of Crusader Kings 3 brought some main characters from the TV series Vikings into the game, the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, who died at the beginning of Crusader Kings 3, and characters like Harald Feinhaar, who desperately wants to become King of Norway.
Characters like Björn Eisenschild and Ivar the Boneless are playable in Crusader Kings 3, and they are also strong starting characters. With “Road to Power” Rollo and Ubbe also came as playable characters, although the playable Rollo doesn’t look the same as in the series.
The new update also brought a new start date for Crusader Kings 3 with characters we know from the film “Kingdom of Heaven”.
The landless adventure “El Cid” is also known from a major television series. And if all that isn’t enough, you can simply replay Game of Thrones with mods: Steam: Game of Thrones will become a new game this week – in the only right way
This is what lies behind it: The feature is great and fits exactly into the world of Crusader Kings 3. However, attention was obviously paid to the balance, because the characters are strong and “relatively” young, but do not have the exaggerated genetic advantages that players are looking for , like “Genius,” a perk that gives a huge boost to all value.
So it’s more of a “flavor” feature that brings variety. In the future, this could be expanded further and more campaigns are conceivable that also focus more on the historical development of the characters – currently there are only characters whose character traits are based on the historical figures.
