We waited in vain for months for a sign of life from Andor season 2. Now the news about the celebrated Star Wars series is overwhelming. Last weekend Andor was a key part of the Lucasfilm panel at D23 Brazil. Among other things, the start date for the new episodes was revealed there.

Those present also saw a teaser trailer. The material shown was not published on the Internet. Thanks to Empire, they can still reach us first pictures from the second and final season the Star Wars series. And they’re bringing back Ben Mendelsohn as the villain Orson Krennic.

First images revealed: Rogue One villain Ben Mendelsohn is shaking up season 2 as Orseon Krennic Andor

Wait, didn’t Orson Krennic die at the end of Rogue One? Yes, you remembered that correctly. Returning to Andor is still possible because the series five years before the events of the film sets in. The fact that Mendelsohn can be seen on the Empire cover alongside Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma) does not represent a breach of canon, but rather fits with the Star Wars story.

Mendelsohn’s return as Orson Krennic doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Back in June, Alonso Ruizpalacios, one of the new Andor directors, let slip that he had filmed with the Australian actor. By publishing the first images via Empire, Lucasfilm made the casting quite official.

In the second season of Andor, Krennic will meet Dedra Meero, played by Denise Gough. Whether the ambitious ISB employee will mess with the Death Star enthusiast? Mendeslohn reveals to Empire:

If they don’t agree, I think it’s cute. But Dedra vs. Krennic? I think that doesn’t quite add up. They are all subordinates of Krennic. They all go in one direction. When you speak your mind in the Empire, there are disagreements.

In another article, Empire focuses on Cassian Andor. What challenges does the protagonist of the story have to face in season 2?

Diego Luna explains:

He is a man wholly committed to rebellion. He is someone who needs to step up. There’s a huge mountain he has to climb to become the man we meet in Rogue One.

Cassian is not alone. Season 2 of Andor also brings back the droid K-2SO, who proves to be an absolute Scene Stealer in Rogue One turned out. But how did the two of them meet?

Luna teases:

The audience has probably already made up their own story about how Cassian and K-2 got together. It says a lot about Cassian that his best friend is a droid. And a droid that he had to reprogram. But how did that actually happen and who was he before? These questions are answered.

Based on Luna’s descriptions, many new locations await us in the second season of Andor. But there is at least one planet that we saw in Star Wars over four decades ago: Yavin, the Earth-like planet that appeared at the beginning of the original trilogy Rebel Alliance base functions.

Series creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy says:

I mean, sooner or later we have to land on Yavin, right? So we will tell the story of Yavin. No one has ever shed light on Yavin the way we will.

It has long been known that the second season of Andor leads directly into the events of Rogue One. Gilroy’s description only reinforces this.

When does Andor season 2 start on Disney+?

The second season of Andor starts in Germany on April 23, 2025 on Disney+. In total, we can look forward to twelve new episodes, which, like the debut round, gradually move towards Rogue One in four three-episode arcs.
