We really don’t lack for good series right now. While Succession delivers one strong episode after the other week after week, Netflix recently thrilled with the snappy comedy thriller Beef. Now there is finally one of them first major series highlights of the year in Germany: Poker Face.
Poker Face started in January in the US at Peacock and became showered with positive reviews. Sky is now releasing the crime thriller on its WOW streaming service. The first two episodes were released yesterday. Two more chapters appear every Monday in the ten-episode first season.

At the heart of Poker Face’s story is amateur detective Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), who is quite planned but has a very valuable gift: She immediately recognizes when a person is lying. This is very helpful when she is working on a new case. However, something goes wrong in their investigation.

Poker Face is the first series created by director and screenwriter Rian Johnson. He is best known as the creative mind behind Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi. In addition, he has evolved throughout his career raged several times in crime fiction, such as Brick, Knives Out, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Now, for the first time, he is narrating weekly/episodic cases. He was particularly inspired by a legend of the genre: Columbo.
