One of the best series of the last 20 years that far too few have seen

The Americans aired on US network FX between 2013 and 2018. Not infrequently was from the “Best Series Nobody Watches” the speech. Although that captivating spy drama Effortlessly keeping up with series giants like Breaking Bad and Mad Men, it’s never been a high-flyer.

It’s almost a miracle that the show wasn’t canceled early and that we got a full six seasons telling the story to the bitterest consequence finish telling. After all, The Americans’ premise is one of the most compelling to be seen on television in recent years.

One of the best series: The Americans conquers Disney+

Set in the late 1960s, Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) meet. At first glance, the two seem like a normal married couple who live in the American suburbs with their children Paige (Holly Taylor) and Henry (Keidrich Sellati). The truth is are they working for the KGB.

Years ago, Elizabeth and Jennings were smuggled into the United States unnoticed. They entered into a marriage of convenience and have their children raised in a web of lies. But the situation slowly gets more complicated: Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), the new neighbor who has just moved in, turns out to be an FBI agent.

Although the Jenningers develop a friendly relationship with their neighbor, there is always the question of how much he really knows. In addition, Paige and Henry begin asking uncomfortable questions

– and Philip has to admit that after all this time he has gotten used to the way of life in the USA.

The Americans continually questions the very existence of the characters, who walk a fine line between lies and truth. The most exciting are the moments when blur the linesso that not only we as viewers, but also the characters themselves have to find out who is pursuing which goals.

One of the reasons The Americans never became a big hit might be due to the series’ pacing. Series creator Joseph Weisberg is building the drama slowly from scene to scene, but does not omit a single conflict that arises from the initial situation. Anyone who gets involved with The Americans experiences one of the best told series of the 21st century.
