Director Denis Villeneuve just scored a big hit with Dune: Part Two. Even before he took on the material about the desert planet Arrakis, he breathed new life into another sci-fi world. With Blade Runner 2049, not only did Harrison Ford return as Deckard, the world was also meaningfully developed further. In the second part, Ryan Gosling took the helm as Police Officer K and investigates a case that could shake society to its foundations.
Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford can now be seen in the flat rate on Amazon Prime Video.
Replicants and secrets – that’s what the sci-fi sequel Blade Runner 2049 is about
As a replicant hunter, Officer K (Gosling)’s job is to track down the artificial people with unlimited lifespans and send them into “retirement” – that is, kill them. These are the last representatives of a nearly extinct species and all that remains of the earlier replicant problems.

A box containing a woman’s bones is found at a protein farmer that K kills. The secret surrounding this woman leads the replicant hunter to his missing ex-colleague Deckard (Ford). But Niander Wallace (Jared Leto), the head of the Tyrell Corporation, also becomes aware of the find and wants to use the secret for himself.
Blade Runner 2049 is what other sequels fail to achieve – a worthy sequel
Lately there have been more delayed sequels to iconic films. Most turned out to be big flops like Matrix Resurrections, others live almost exclusively from retro cult, like Star Wars Episode VII. Only a few sequels that appear decades later manage to meaningfully continue the stories of the original.
In the case of Blade Runner 2049, however, this was achieved excellently. The world has evolved believably and yet the film tells its own story. The sequel brings enough connection to the original without getting lost in it. And with Ryan Gosling we get an interesting character in an exciting plot.
The replicants go into series production: Blade Runner will continue
Streaming giant Amazon has secured the rights to a Blade Runner series. Under the name of Blade Runner 2099 The sci-fi series is supposed to continue the film series. This represents another big leap in the plot, which should give the showrunners enough freedom to tell their own story. With Blade Runner – Black Lotus there was already an anime version as a series.
Whether the series will be as celebrated as Amazon’s latest adaptation of Fallout or leave fans dissatisfied like Rings of Power remains to be seen. After all, the staff consists of experienced people who have celebrated various successes with series adaptations. We should be thrilled.
