The first Alien film is undoubtedly one of the greatest classics in film history. Except for the sequel by James Cameron, the same cannot really be said of the other sequels. More than 30 years after the groundbreaking original, director Ridley Scott has returned to the Alien series himself with the prequel-like spin-off Prometheus – Dark Signs one of the most controversial films in the franchise delivered.
Tonight you can watch the film at 11:25 p.m. on Sat. 1. Even if the film is widely criticized for logic errors and answers to questions that nobody would have asked, the visually stunning, ambitious blockbusters For me one of the best sci horror movies of the last 10 years.
Prometheus brings nasty sci-fi horror and depth to the Alien franchise
Similar to the first Alien part, Prometheus skilfully plays with it fear of the unknown. In the science fiction scenario, however, Ridley Scott no longer explores what humanity has not yet discovered in the future, but what we were not yet aware of from our deepest past.

That Dilemma between creator and creation reflects Prometheus in the android David, played brilliantly by Michael Fassbender. When he is told by the archaeologist Charlie that he was only created by humans because they were able to do it, he replies both aptly and oppressively: “Can you imagine how disappointing it would be to hear the same from your creator?”
In addition to these philosophical tones, Prometheus also inspires as a straightforward sci-fi horror that keeps the viewer involved chilling suspense and violent moments of shock roused.
Next to the fantastic production design, which leads to deadly sandstorms on alien planets or the mysterious interiors of mountain caves, Prometheus often unleashes pure physical horror. As a result, Ridley Scott’s film develops into a surreal-bizarre death odyssey in the most intense moments, alongside the mostly simply drawn (and really not too cleverly acting) characters.
Aliens that break bones and disappear into their victims’ bodies through their mouths, faces that are burned by acid or a sequence in which Naomi Rapace’s character remove one of the beings from their own wombare just a few memorable moments from Prometheus.

As a whole, the blockbuster is impressive proof of how a franchise can return to its roots and still be a fascinating new mythology can create, in which the horror of the unknown merges with the horror of our own existence.
