In 2035, a virus wiped out large parts of humanity. Inmate James Cole (Willis) is sent back in time to prevent catastrophe. But something goes wrong with the trip, he ends up in a 1990 mental hospital and meets the radical activist Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt), who is linked to the virus. But the faulty time travel mechanism soon drags him on, among other things on a battlefield of the First World War.
Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys is now considered a masterpiece by many, and not without reason. Terrific production design and a unique look that, among other things works with fisheye lenses and other optical finesse, make the film extremely entertaining. Not to mention the best performances of the actors, especially Willis and Pitt.
