Prey tells the backstory to Predator and takes us to the 18th century to the American indigenous Comanche people, who have to defend themselves against the Predator alien, who has come to earth to prove their status at the top of the hunters. At the same time, the young Comanche Naru (Amber Midthunder) wants to prove herself as a hunter and meets the most dangerous opponent in the universe.

Predator 2 in 1990 failed to maintain the high tension of the hunt from the first film and the last franchise entry, Predator – Upgrade, was also a box office flop. So things weren’t going well for the franchise – all the more amazing that the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane managed to turn things around.

The Predator prequel Prey is that good

The prequel to the sci-fi horror series that began with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Mexican jungle, surprised with good reviews. The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes records to date 94 percent positive reviews by critics and concludes that Prey is a Predator prequel, as it should be.

Our colleagues from film releases weren’t overly enthusiastic, but editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen was good 3.5 out of 5 stars in his review and praised the strong leading actress and the entertaining second half of the film, which picks up speed after a rather quiet introduction.

Prey actually manages to save the series from ruin and, in addition to the typical orgy of violence, also delivers a certain level of character development that action hits quickly forget. The release on Blu-ray and DVD is all the more pleasing.
