Science fiction films that make a lasting impression and still amaze within their genre are rare. Coherence is one of those amazing films that digs into your brain and never lets you go. It’s not without reason that the film landed at number 3 in our 50 best sci-fi films since 2000. Now, after 11 years, the insider tip is surprisingly getting a sequel.
Sci-fi masterpiece Coherence gets a sequel that will finally mess up your brain
In 2013, the small indie film Coherence made big sci-fi waves. The story begins in a way that is not typical for the genre, with a dinner party of eight friends. Em (Emily Baldoni), Kevin (Maury Sterling), Mike (Nicholas Brendon) and co. want to spend a nice evening together. But then a Comet in the sky over, a power outage paralyzes the neighborhood and strange events make them Reality increasingly questioned place.
What happens next is something you have to experience for yourself in order to be able to be unbiasedly overwhelmed by Coherence. But this much is clear: after you have seen this thought experiment, there are many infographics on the Internet to help you untie the knot in your brain.

Shot minimalistically over 5 nights in the house of director James Ward Byrkit, Coherence proves that impressive sci-fi films don’t always need space battles or flying cars. The increasingly complex plot unfolds with delightful tension. Now, according to Deadline, a Sequel on the way. Filmmaker Byrkit explained:
Since the film came out, I have been inundated with suggestions for sequels and remakes. But none of them inspired us until [Produzentin] Kate Andrews me a Email with two words that unlocked this box. Either she’s a genius or she’s from a parallel reality where Alex Manugian and I have already written the film she’s now proposing.
