When video game films go their own way and only agree with the original in the name and a few core elements, it can often backfire. But you deliver it endlessly entertaining sci-fi action cinema, nobody can actually be really bad anymore. And maybe films like this will even become a cult.
This formula definitely worked for Paul WS Anderson and his wife Milla Jovovich. They made a total of six films together since the first Resident Evil and shot and sliced their way into the hearts of many sci-fi, action and zombie fans.
The entire Resident Evil series is now available on Netflix. Of all places, the platform that thought it wanted to re-implement the source material as a series two years ago – and failed mercilessly.

So we gather together to listen to the eternal fairy tale of zombie slaughter. It begins, like so many end-times fairy tales, with a secret, secret research facility and a dangerous, dangerous virus. A virus released through an unfortunate set of circumstances that poses an enormous threat to the world.
Good thing there’s also a (bad? good? we’ll see!) queen, in this case the Red Queen, the lab’s AI. They take protective measures and first kill all those infected. But what do I have to hear? They stand as Zombies and mutants and mutant zombies back up? Then, as in every good story, a special commando is now needed.

Our two action princesses Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) will take care of the zombies and the queen. And not just in one film. No, no, our fairytale world spans six films in which humanity and the earth are increasingly decimated increasingly overrun by monsters becomes.
But of course Alice never gives up. Humanity wants to be saved and the earth wants to be rebuilt. Because the work of a true action princess never ends as long as there are undead, the Umbrella Corporation, secret technologies and hidden bunkers in the game!
Netflix recently tried its own Resident Evil remake – but failed spectacularly
Netflix series based on beloved franchises and templates are usually a surprise bag. The streaming service’s adaptations range on a spectrum from “makes everyone happy” like One Piece to “this is the only thing left Hate speech” is enough. The latter fate also flourished in Netflix’s new approach to Resident Evil in 2022.
What kind of fans they are Hope for a whole new era of the iconic zombie universe quickly turned out to be a profound disappointment for most people.
Here on Moviepilot the series only received an average of just over 4 out of 10 points and things didn’t look much better on other rating portals either. The reactions were underground and the numbers apparently were too: Netflix had it in a very short time and after just one season pulled the plug and Resident Evil was canceled straight away.
