One of the best sci fi action movies of recent years

With Resident Evil, director Paul WS Anderson delivered one in the early 2000s fascinating video game adaptation away. On the one hand, he took many aspects from the template, such as the mythological aspects surrounding the T-Virus and the Umbrella Corporation. On the other hand, the film takes a lot of liberties.

While the Resident Evil games extremely on nerve-wracking survival horror are trimmed, Anderson has always understood the series as a stepping stone to plunge more into bloody sci-fi action cinema. This is most evident in Resident Evil: Retribution, the penultimate film starring Milla Jovovich as the protagonist Alice.

  • Today on TV: Resident Evil: Retribution airs tonight at 00:05 on Sat.1. The repetition follows in the night from Sunday to Monday at 02:30 a.m. Alternatively, you can stream the film on Netflix.
  • Resident Evil: Retribution is a great video game adaptation, but not Resident Evil

Many fans have been extremely disappointed with Anderson’s approach to the Resident Evil films. At the latest in Retribution, not much is left of the eerie atmosphere of the template. Instead, the film sees itself as a restless sequence of action scenes in artificial corridors. But that’s where it gets interesting again.

Not only does Anderson’s action have an incredible feel for the spatial environment and the furious movements. At its core, the structure and staging of Retribution couldn’t be any closer to the level design of a video game. Anderson takes us through a maze of different levels and quests.

While Resident Evil: Retribution bears little resemblance to the video game that originally inspired the series, we have one of the best cinematic interpretations of the series essence of a video game to do. In Resident Evil: Retribution, locations full of obstacles are loaded before our eyes. Together with Alice we then have to find a way to get to the other side.
