The original plans for a film or series often seem incomprehensible to fans after they start. One Piece is no exception. Author Eiichiro Oda has revealed, what favorite character Sanji was originally supposed to be called.

On Twitter, a fan quotes Oda as saying:
Sanji’s name was originally Naruto. Then the Naruto manga started. I knew it would run for a long time, so I changed the name. Did you notice the swirls in Sanji’s eyebrows? Naruto are Japanese side dishes with a swirl pattern.

The quote was also picked up by GamePro and CBR, among others. Imagining Sanji under the name Naruto will be completely unimaginable for One Piece fans. Many will find the overlap with the extremely successful Naruto manga and anime franchise bizarre.
One Piece revolves around a group of pirates searching for the treasure of a deceased pirate king. The ship’s chef Sanji is responsible, among other things, for the food.
