On TV: Action masterpiece Gladiator will soon be continued and the first star has been found

Maximus (Crowe) has done his duty: he is one of the ablest generals of the Roman Empire and only wishes to finally return to his family. But the cruel heir to the throne Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) has the officer’s wife and children murdered for political reasons. driven by revenge Maximus fights his way to Rome as a gladiator.

Gladiator is the gory advancement of historical epics like Ben Hur or Spartacus. Endlessly opulently staged Scott bombastic battles, dusty arenas and depraved Rome with its swanky buildings and hedonistic bedchambers. Iconic action choreographies are still remembered 23 years after their theatrical release. Crowe and Phoenix give their all in their roles.

So it’s no wonder that Gladiator 2 is currently being worked on. After 23 years of brainstorming, Scott now wants to bring a sequel to cinemas, starring Aftersun star Paul Mescal. Mescal will play Lucius, son of Commodus’ sister Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). More details about the story are not yet known.
