Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump not only tells a touching, sentimental and funny story. The film was groundbreaking subtle use of digital effects. They enabled the depiction of Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise), who was injured in the Vietnam War, and integrated Tom Hanks into real documentary footage.

The film opened in cinemas in 1994. It grossed a staggering $678 million, which, adjusted for inflation, would be around $1.4 billion today. There were also six Academy Awards and a historic victory for Hanks. He was only the second actor after Spencer Tracy to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in two consecutive years (he had previously won for Philadelphia).

The remake starring Aamir Khan was released in 2022

In 2018, Indian superstar Aamir Khan (3 Idiots) set about remaking Forrest Gump. The film was released in German cinemas in 2022. Khan plays Laal Singh Chaddha, who, like Forrest, witnesses important events in Indian history.

Unlike Forrest Gump, however, the Indian remake disappointed at the box office and didn’t even break in on its budget. If you want to take a look, the film currently has an okay rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes Average of 66 percent mostly positive reviews.
