With Scream – Scream! director Wes Craven has one Horror film milestone created. The slasher released in 1996 not only scores with brutal kills and an iconic villain. When the nasty Ghostface gets up to mischief, he does so with full knowledge of all the tropes of the horror genre.

Already in the course of Freddy’s New Nightmare, the seventh part of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, Craven has one Tried meta approach. With Scream he achieved resounding success. Suddenly every studio in Hollywood wanted a cool meta-horror movie and Scream was expanded into a series.

Legendary horror series: Scream has already been revived twice and now even part 7 is coming

Two sequels, Scream 2 (1996) and Scream 3 (2000), were quickly shot. After that followed first big break, before Craven teamed up again with Scream writer Kevin Williamson. However, Scream 4 (2011) failed to revive the series. Horror cinema had developed in a different direction.

In recent years, the Scream series has nevertheless experienced a revival in the cinema. Contrary to the disappointing numbers of its predecessor, Scream 5 (2022) new interest in the Ghostface mythos kindle. Scream 6 (2023) was therefore quickly decided and the end of the success story is not in sight.

Just this week, work on Scream 7 was confirmed with the engagement of a director: Christopher Landon will direct the next installment in the series. With cheeky horror films he knows his stuff very well: He is the creative mind behind the two-part Happy Deathday series and also shot Freaky.

Horror milestone: When will Scream be on TV?

Before the Scream series continues in theaters, catch the original on TV tonight, August 5, 2023. Scream is running at 10:15 p.m. on ServusTV. The repetition follows at 02:00 at night. The theatrical version is shown, which was originally released from FSK 18 and was later indexed. Only in 2011 was there a re-examination, so that the film is now approved for ages 16 and over.
