Sam Raimi’s low-budget shocker Devil’s Dance from 1981 is not only an absolute cult film, but also the beginning of a remarkable franchise, which to date includes 5 feature films and the bloody-fun series Ash vs Evil Dead. The latest chapter, Evil Dead Rise, started this year and thrilled with bitter demon fun and plenty of pain.
Evil Dead Rise will finally be released in Germany on July 13th on DVD, Blu-ray and in 4K-UHD format. It is the uncut FSK-18 version. However, there is bad news for home cinema collectors.

One of the best horror franchises returns
After Sam Raimi and Fede Alvarez, Lee Cronin will direct Evil Dead Rise for the first time. A completely new story is told here that does not tie in with the previous Tanz der Teufel film and that Horror setting transported from the forest to the big city.
The demonic terror begins when an earthquake uncovers a secret basement chamber beneath a derelict high-rise complex in Los Angeles that houses a certain Book of the Dead. With this Necronomicon, demonic madness invades a small family.

Tattoo artist Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) is seized by a supernatural force and transformed into a hellish figure who wants to incorporate her children Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), Kassie (Nell Fisher) and Danny (Morgan Davies). Luckily, Ellie’s sister Beth (Lily Sullivan) is on hand to take care of the kids at the Battle against the demon mother assists.

No Evil Dead without a chainsaw
As a claustrophobic chamber play, the film gets the maximum tension out of the cramped space of a high-rise building thanks to the clever staging. Lead actress Alyssa Sutherland shines as the terrifying demon mom with a black humorous wit.
Of course, Evil Dead Rise doesn’t miss out on gore either. With a global Grossing over $146 million Evil Dead Rise is the highest-grossing film in the horror franchise to date. A sequel in the form of Evil Dead Rise 2 has not yet been announced, but it is almost certain.
