One of the best horror films of the last 20 years will soon disappear from Amazon Prime and is nowhere else on the flat

One of the best horror films of the last 20

Amazon is giving us an alarming preview of what movies and series will be kicking out in the next 30 days. Among them this time is the uncut horror masterpiece The Descent, which you can only find by subscription on Amazon. *

The Descent is really not for the faint of heart, especially in the uncut version

“The Descent is a masterpiece of recent horror film history”, writes my colleague Patrick Reinbott at Moviepilot. Numerous horror film leaderboards confirm this. According to the film magazine Collider, The Descent is one of the 41 best horror films of the 2000s. Even for Jak Burton at Screen Rant the best horror film of a decade.

It’s all about this: The monster-horror-thriller hybrid by Neil Marshall begins in a very genre-typical way. Sarah’s (Shauna Macdonald) friends try to change her mind after a bad accident. A Survival adventures in a cave should provide the perfect distraction.

However, the group leader directs them to an unexplored cave instead of to the tourist attraction. It comes as we already suspected: the way back is blocked and a claustrophobic struggle for survival begins.

The friends soon discover a climbing hook that is more than a hundred years old and cave paintings in the seemingly deserted depths. The group follows clues to an exit, but hiding in the darkness of the cave is something even worse than the fear of not getting out. Relentless Monsters enjoy the fresh prey.

What makes the horror shocker The Descent so special

If you are unsure whether you are made for this horror shocker, then take this warning to heart: The Descent has one of the most devastating endings you’ve ever seen in a horror movie. For the US theatrical version, the gruesome finale was even cut and made into a happy ending to endure the film. Also available on Amazon the uncut version from 18 to see that confronts you with a lot of gore and fake blood.

The Descent stands out from (at first glance) similar productions for a number of reasons – most notably because it really pulls off every horror element it uses. He doesn’t just have a Final Girl, he has a complete one female cast whose dynamic carries the story.

The monsters enter the movie at a point where we’re already terrified and aren’t really the main attraction. Nevertheless, the shower strip delivers disgusting, practical monster effects. With the extra Use of fear in the dark really everyone gets nightmares from the creatures.

The Descent is also a positive example of using jump scares, which wear out quickly with many other films. Sam McCurdy’s camera gets everything out of the claustrophobic setting out of here.

The sequel The Descent 2 – The hunt continues can be streamed on the Amazon channel Home of Horror*, but part 2 cannot match the genius of the original.
