German mainstream comedy – it doesn’t just have to be Til Schweiger and Matthias Schweighöfer. In the past few years, there have always been movies worth watching to discover away from the two cinema giants. This includes the Road Movie 25 km/h, which was released in German cinemas in October 2018.
At first glance, the title seems quite inconspicuous. Nevertheless, he catches them cozy mood of the film quite well. When Lars Eidinger and Bjarne Mädel, estranged brothers, meet again in their home country after a long time, long distances are covered at slow speed.

Nevertheless, the brothers decide to go on a moped tour through Germany. From the Black Forest to Rügen the journey should go – always at a comfortable speed of 25 km/h. What follows is an odyssey through lonely country roads and crowded marketplaces, where chaos is inevitable.
25 km/h draws heavily on its two strong protagonists
The fact that 25 km/h works so well is mainly due to the dynamic between Lars Eidinger and Bjarne Mädel. The two actors move effortlessly between the two comedic and the dramatic elements of the plot. There’s never a dull moment watching these two explore their characters.
However, 25 km/h is not one of those films that only make fun of the contrasts between the characters. In the beginning, that resonates with you. However, it quickly becomes clear that both Christian and Georg carry their own demons around with them. The film is willing to explore this and thus possesses some touching facets.

What should not be missing from a road movie are encounters with different people. Here 25 km/h scores with great Supporting Actors. Lars Eidinger and Bjarne Mädel meet, among others, the always fantastic Sandra Hüller. There are also well-known faces such as Franka Potente, Jella Haase and Jördis Triebel.
Only Wotan Wilke Möhring oversteps the mark and, with his excessively exaggerated performance, creates an imbalance in this otherwise very balanced comedy, which also has a welcome summer feeling attends.
