Expensive whisky shimmers like amber in a crystal glass. It is served in a London pub that can look back on over a century of tradition. It also happens to be a Meeting place of the country’s biggest gang bossesHere, eccentric criminals with a wicked sense of humor and a strong accent come and go. And every now and then, blood stains have to be professionally removed.
This sounds like something Guy Ritchie would come up with. And of course it is. Above all, it is a highly polished version of a Ritchie film, The Gentlemen, in the best sense of the word. Star-studded, fast-paced, explosive and infinitely charming in its audacity. The gangster comedy is currently part of the flat rate on Amazon Prime – but not for much longer.

Now we’re in a pickle. We have to somehow package the plot of a Guy Ritchie film in a clear way. That works about as well as reaching into the drawer with all the loose cables that have accumulated over the years and immediately finding the right one. But for your sake, let’s try.
First of all, there is Matthew McConaughey alias Mickey Pearson. He is an American expatriate, drug lord and close to retirement. All he needs is a successor. So he offers his Marijuana Empire and resell the position associated with it. But this is a Guy Ritchie film, so it’s not that simple.

After all, Mickey has made a lot of enemies They have their own goals and would actually like to bring him down. And the henchmen of his enemies, such as the definitely untrustworthy private detective Fletcher (Hugh Grant), have other goals of their own. All of this results in the purest Intrigue Dilemmafrom which Mickey must somehow escape.

There is so much to love about The Gentlemen for Tarantino, gangster and of course Ritchie fans that (as with the plot) we can’t list everything. But once again, you’re worth it, so we’ll just get started.
In The Gentlemen, all the well-known actors seem to be Joy of play and humor to try to outdo him: a dry, sarcastic Charlie Hunnam, a quirky Colin Farrell, the super-cool McConaughey and, above all, Hugh Grant. Two films opened his “crazy villain” era, which seems to have given him new life energy. One of them was Paddington 2, the other this one.

The film is the product of Ritchie’s decades of experience in perfecting his own formula as a British Tarantino. Never before have his cuts to perfect music, the quick sayings of his characters and the violent peaks meshed so well together. Never before has everything felt so harmonious and gripping at.
Guy Ritchie loves his typical black humor gangster clothes. And we love him for it. And we love him for it and his funniest and most stylish representative of this genre to date. The but disappears in 35 hours from Amazon Prime. So grab your whisky and go watch!
