On Steam, Motion Twin writes the following:

Update 35 for Dead Cells marks the end of our creative journey on this game. After an incredible 5-year collaboration delivering additional content for Dead Cells Live Ops, Evil Empire is moving on to new adventures, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

The developers would have thought about it for a long time, especially after the great success of the DLC Return to Castlevania last year. In recent years, the Evil Empire development studio has also played a key role in this DLC and The Queen and the Sea.

Motion Twin’s desire to avoid the more of the same trap and keep Dead Cells fresh and original led them to this point. They emphasize that it is crucial not to overdo it and risk losing Dead Cells’ unique charm.

The farewell to Evil Empire

Evil Empire has also said goodbye to the fans and developers of Dead Cells. The studio expressed their pride in the work done and emphasized that they enjoyed every minute.

They sincerely thank Motion Twin for the trust placed in them and for giving them the opportunity to work on this project for so long.

It was also announced that the Evil Empire team would soon reveal their own secret projects.

What’s next? Motion Twin is already working on a roguelike co-op game called Windblown and wants to take on new challenges. Still, Motion Twin assures fans that Dead Cells will not be forgotten. There will continue to be solutions to existing problems and exciting projects such as an animated series and a board game based around Dead Cells.

Windblown is scheduled to go into early access (on PC) this year, but it is not yet known when exactly in 2024 it will start.
