The Banshees of Inisherin – Trailer (German) HD
The hilariously tragic story by exceptional director Martin McDonagh tells the story of friends Padraigh (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson) who live side by side on the fictional Irish island of Inisherin in the 1920s. Until one morning Colm doesn’t want to have anything more to do with his buddy. He avoids his presence, goes out of his way and unceremoniously terminates his friendship. Devastated, Padraigh tries to get to the bottom of the mystery.
A superficial answer is quickly found, but the simply knitted Padraigh does not want to give up the long-standing connection without a fight. Colm then threatens to break every word his ex-boyfriend says cut off a finger.
The result is just like seeing McDonagh’s Bruges… and dying? tragic and hilarious at the same time. Farrell and Gleeson deliver incredible acting performances. Her characters, with their childish quirkiness, cause the audience to laugh at one moment and plunge the audience into a deep hole of existential tragedy the next. Even nausea is part of the film’s repertoire of effects, if the mental duel for friendship reaches a bloody peak.
