Not every great film gets what it deserves. Film history is full of works that failed to achieve success despite suspense or visual power or great stars. This is also the case with a fantasy highlight of 2023 that will be released on Netflix in five days: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Coming soon to Netflix: Dungeons & Dragons is an endlessly entertaining fantasy ride
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves revolves around a narcissistic thief (Chris Pine) who escapes from prison with a rough warrior (Michelle Rodriguez). Together with three other loyal followers, they want to put a stop to the devious magician (Hugh Grant), who robbed them on their last raid.

As the name suggests, the fantasy blockbuster is set in the universe of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. The creators lovingly bring the legendary world with its fortresses, dungeons, enchanted landscapes and quirky heroes to life.
The script is full of wit, the action scenes are captivating and detailed sets create a dense atmosphere. Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (both screenwriters for Spider-Man: Homecoming) use a rhythm that simply doesn’t let the film get boring.
When is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves coming to Netflix?
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be released on 29 September 2024 on Netflix. If the fantasy blockbuster becomes a hit on stream, that could at least strengthen the vague hope for part 2. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectations in the cinema, as The Numbers shows.
