Tim Burton is a directorial legend. The creator of unique visions like Edward Scissorhands has a collaboration with the Disney studio that began more than 40 years ago. His experiences with Dumbo vbut thoroughly ruined the partnership. Now there is only one Netflix project on the horizon for him.

He said so at a press conference at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, as Deadline reports.

I started my career at Disney. But since Dumbo, I think my days there are numbered. I realized then that I am Dumbo myself and toil and flee in this great, horrible circus.

He only planned to film at the moment the Addams Family series Wednesday for Netflix, so the filmmaker. Burton began his career as an animator at Disney in the early 1980s (via Vanity Fair).

He doesn’t describe exactly what went wrong with the Dumbo shoot. He’s only vague about the fact that it’s now outside of mega-franchises like Star Wars or Pixar only “little space” at Disney. Hopefully Wednesday will show whether he actually found more freedom with the streaming giant Neflix.
