While the finale of the cult series Brooklyn Nine-Nine is still a long way off in this country, a new series in the USA has already inherited the popular workplace mockumentary.

Abbott Elementary isn’t just that one of the biggest comedy surprises of the yearbut also proof that US network television can still produce highlights.

In Germany, Abbott Elementary has now started directly with Disney+. All 13 episodes are available there for retrieval (and partying). If you fans of workplace sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks and Recreation, Superstore or The Office, this series definitely belongs on your watch list.

Abbott Elementary is one mockumentaryin which a camera crew the experiences of different Teachers at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School follows in Philadelphia, mainly working on people of color. She is equal parts one honest appreciation the hard work and passion that teachers bring to their protégés as well as bitter criticism on the ailing education system in the USA.

The genre of the workplace sitcom has produced a number of highlights in recent years. But none since Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been as exciting from the get-go as Abbott Elementary. She’s clever, honest, has great characters and is also damn funny. It’s not without reason that the ABC series was honored at this year’s Emmy Awards nominated for Best Comedy Series – and in four other categories. So it’s hardly surprising that a second season has long since been ordered.
