A handful of kidnapped people have to fight their way through trap-ridden cube rooms. The Japanese remake Cube is one of 42 science fiction films this year. We finally return to the abysmal fantasy of horror director Vincenzo Natali, who made his mark with the original Cube in 1997.

In Yasuhiko Shimizu’s remake, we can once again enjoy the chilling cube puzzle in fresh images. Original creator Natali is even on board as executive producer. He praises the remake, citing First Showing:

Shimizu-san did a great job. I guess I don’t need to say that [der Film] is uniquely Japanese.

The new Cube debuted in Japan in 2021 and is coming to horror streaming service Screambox in the US this year. That’s why there is one for the first time Trailer with English subtitles.

A German streaming start is still pending, but Cube is already available on Blu-ray * with German subtitles. You can stream the original from the 90s on Netflix.

Cube’s cube rooms could have been straight out of one of the Saw movies – only the Cube series started a few years earlier. Six kidnapped men and women wake up in a cube-shaped room. The victims seem to have nothing to do with each other.

They find out that the room has other cube rooms adjacent to it. In a gory fashion, they must realize that in some of the dice brutal and mostly deadly traps waiting for her. As the relentless traps in the trailer suggest, the most terrifying of them are reunited.
