Tom Cruise shines in Mission: Impossible 5 as an actor and stuntman
In an interview with Variety at the time, Mission: Impossible 5 stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood spoke about Tom Cruise’s amazing feat of not only holding his breath underwater for minutes, but also doing it act convincingly and had to fake his fainting in the scene:
We didn’t want cuts. We were looking for a claustrophobic effect. Tom really wanted to make the sequence difficult, and we wanted to take the audience on that journey. When a stunt guy is working, we cut back and forth, and the stunt guy does what’s asked of him as a stuntman. Tom does what’s asked of him as a stuntman, but he also has to play the character. That’s the biggest difference.
Although the sequence was cut in the final film, the crew actually shot the passage on set in just one take. Impressive proof of Tom Cruise’s commitment, which should also set new standards in terms of stunts in the upcoming Mission: Impossible 7. The next sequel is supposed to be on November 18, 2021 come to the cinema.
