One of the best action hits of the 90’s that caused a riot with a dangerous scene

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

The Rock is one of the biggest action movies of the 90’s. Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage give their all, the story about a rocket attack from the prison island of Alcatraz is iconic and Michael Bay

finds rare virtuosity with tight, tangible action sequences. Too virtuosic maybe. A particularly tricky scene caused a real tumult.

The Rock on TV: Action filming sparked fear and terror in San Francisco

It is the well-known balcony sequence of the film. FBI director Womack (John Spencer) wants to recruit the captured British spy Mason (Connery) for the Alcatraz mission and approves a few niceties on the balcony of a hotel. Mason, however, cares little. He throws the director on a rope over the parapet and uses the ensuing excitement to escape.

The scene was shot exactly like this at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. A stuntman hung from the side of the building by a thin rope and dangled above the ground. Bay and his team had apparently not thought of guests and passers-by. As Screen Rant reports, they called the hotel (and certainly the police) in droves and alerted about the apparent emergency.

The misunderstanding was apparently cleared up and the scene was shot to the end. Perhaps Bay’s later Transformers adventures focused on CGI action because of his The Rock experiences. Less interruptions from spooked audiences.
