If you love action, you can’t avoid Heat. Michael Mann’s (Collateral) breathtaking masterpiece unleashes a duel between robber McCauley (Robert DeNiro) and investigator Hanna (Al Pacino) on the streets of Los Angeles. Last year it was announced that a sequel to the film was planned. The star director now explained, how close the sequel is to starting filming.
The script for the action sequel Heat 2 is nearing completion
As Mann revealed to Deadline, he has Heat 2 script almost finished. “We have to finish it soon“He revealed. He will find the missing pieces”on the flight back to LA“, explained the filmmaker, who was at a festival in Saudi Arabia at the time of the conversation.

This provides a much-needed update for a film for which information has so far been scarce. Previous reports mainly had to contain speculation: filming may begin at the end of 2024, possibly Adam Driver (Star Wars 7) and Austin Butler (Elvis) Cast as younger versions of McCauley and Hanna – little definitive.
For Heat 2, Mann apparently wants to film the novel of the same name, which he published in 2022 together with the writer Meg Gardiner. The plot of the book takes place both before and after the events of the screen predecessor, but leaves the focus on its protagonists.
When is Heat 2 coming to cinemas?
Just like with casting, there are no concrete statements yet about the start date. If filming begins in early 2025, we could expect a release Mid-2026 introduce. Mann confirmed that Heat 2 is definitely his next film.
