One of Saws nastiest traps almost went terribly wrong

You can certainly still remember the hard-to-carry needle pit from Saw II. Finally it is the worst trap of the horror film serieswrites Variety at the Fallen Ranking.

If you know the background, it becomes even more unbearable: Although more than a hundred thousand dummies were used, the pit shooting was due to a mishap almost a real trap.

Borrowed from Amazon: Real syringes mingled with the dummies during the filming of Saw II

As a refresher, the trap with the pit full of syringes was actually intended for the drug addict Xavier. However, he didn’t hesitate and a short time later threw Amanda (Shawnee Smith) into the hole with a thousand needles.

In order to be able to stage the horror well, the film team “de-needled” real syringes. After reaching a whopping 120,000 dummies, a crew member made the fatal mistake.

Saw 2: The infamous needle pit with 120,000 needles

Accidentally became a box of real syringes, which the team had not defused, sunk in the already filled pit. In a really gripping Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) on Reddit, director Darren Lynn Bousman remembers it clearly:

[Jemand warf] Seconds before filming, a box of real needles into the pit. We had to stop filming until the real needles were found. It was, like looking for a needle in a pile of needles.

The real syringes, however, were not the only concern at this trap.

A danger to mother and Child: The actress of the horror film was pregnant

The team had to search all the more meticulously because actress Shawnee Smith on the one hand four months pregnant was and on the other hand trypanophobia is afraid of injections. Safety is of course the number one priority on the film set.

The syringe pit shoot itself was a lot easier for Shawnee Smith than other days of shooting, as she revealed in an interview with Radio Free:

[Die Dreharbeiten waren] kind of agony. But at the same time it was comparatively easy because the pictures speak for themselves and I didn’t have to do much at all. Just get in the pit and off you go. When I think back to the days of shooting when the jaw trap When it was my turn, I found it very scary.”

The needle pit speaks for itself. The syringes are partially smeared with blood and appear to have been in use. It’s not just the needles themselves, but also the countless germs and risk of infection lurking in the pit.
