In 2017, 13 Reasons Why became one of the biggest series phenomena worldwide and made lead actor Dylan Minnette a mega-star overnight. As Minnette explained in an interview on the Zach Sang Show, despite his great success, he has lost his passion for acting over the years:
I was lucky enough to find success in acting. I didn’t do 13 Reasons Why and it was very popular and that was definitely a high point in my acting career. But it also started to feel more like a job. And I was in a very lucky position, I always enjoyed it, it was always very inspiring, but then it started to feel more like just a job to feel.

Instead, Minnette has devoted himself more intensively to another project in recent years ‒ his band WallowsHe founded the band together with Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston in 2011. The trio had always dreamed of bringing their music “to get as far as possible”In 2017, they finally achieved their breakthrough when their first album Nothing Happens landed in the US charts.
Now Minnette has reached a point where he wants to concentrate fully on music and his band:
I think I’m in a position where I can just do this for a while and take it as far as I can. The only way to do that is if I 100 percent of my time and energy into it and take it very seriously and show the world that we take this very seriously. We are a real band and we do things that real bands do.

Dylan Minnete can imagine returning to acting – at least at some point
Nevertheless, the 13 Reasons Why star does not rule out a return in front of the camera. Just as he is more interested in music, “natural and inspiring” felt, he could imagine acting again for similar reasons:
I feel like I have something to give, and that is probably in acting… I think I am starting to feel inspired to do that again. At some point, when we have fulfilled our quota with Wallows and we are all ready to take a breakthen I will have the perfect inspiration to do something.
