According to the English-language online magazine Gamesradar, which received the subscription-based interview, David Fincher has now finally confirmed: There will be no third season of Mindhunter. At least not on Netflix.
However, the filmmaker does not blame the streaming provider because: “They are with the series took a risk.”
Too expensive? That’s why Netflix pulled the plug on the thriller series
We’ve noticed several times over the past few months and years that Netflix isn’t exactly squeamish when it comes to stamping out series. A streaming provider has to think economically and therefore pays particular attention to the number of views when it comes to a series or a film had to invest a lot of money.
According to David Fincher, it is also what finally led to the end of Mindhunter after two seasons:
I’m very proud of the first two seasons, but it’s quite an expensive show and from a Netflix perspective our audience wasn’t big enoughto justify such an investment.
It is theoretically possible, of course, that another streaming provider grabs the series to finish it. How it should have continued after season 2 was already clear. The investigative duo should go to Hollywood to sensitize filmmakers to the reality behind serial killers and their psyche. This was reported by the film site Collider.
