Before the MCU dominated all areas of pop culture as a film and series universe, there were the Marvel series on Netflix. Not all were celebrated by fans and critics. Some started out promising and got worse from season to season. Most people can agree on one thing though: Daredevil was one fantastically dark adaptation of a characterwhich many had already written off since the Ben Affleck film adaptation.

The reactions were all the more enthusiastic when Charlie Cox’s Daredevil got a guest appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and was confirmed for future MCU appearances. But it doesn’t seem to stay that way, because now the return of another one is supposed to happen popular Marvel character of the Netflix era be confirmed: Jessica Jones.

While Black Widow in the Marvel films still functioned primarily as eye-candy and potential love interest, Marvel’s Jessica Jones 2015 showed what an MCU story can look like, in which a complicated and capable superhero takes center stage. Jessica Jones is a private investigator desperately trying to to drown their traumatic past in alcohol. Until her former tormentor shows up, endangers lives and Jessica can no longer run away from her problems.

The Netflix adaptation was dark, cynical, brutal, emotionally draining, yet humorous – and is still one of the best Marvel series ever. And Jessica Jones could be back sooner than thought. According to ScreenGeek Breaking Bad star Krysten Ritter already be involved in an upcoming MCU project. Exactly what that is supposed to be cannot be confirmed yet:

Even if the site does not disclose its sources, the timing seems understandable. Disney+ has finally grabbed all the former Netflix shows and included in their own program.

Not continuing to work with the popular characters would be a waste. Finally the Marvel machine always needs new fodder, even apart from the multiverse plans. And taking an already well-established and popular character and continuing it is less risky than building a whole new superhero. The upcoming Daredevil series is the best proof.
