The Fast and Furious series has been with us for over 20 years. It took almost that long for their first spin-off to be published. Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is the name of the work in which franchise star Vin Diesel does not appear. Instead, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham team up for their first (and last?) adventure together. Your opponent is a super soldier modified with cyber-genetic body parts.

Luther actor Idris Elba plays the villain Brixton Lore, an ex-agent and terrorist with a destructive plan. The superhumanly strong villain wants to accelerate evolution by… wipe out a vulnerable part of the world’s population with a virust. Since Agent Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby from the Mission: Impossible films) is also infected with the virus, Fast and Furious brawlers Deckard Shaw (Statham as Kirby’s film brother) and Luke Hobbs (Johnson) have to team up to save Hattie to save and stop Brixton.

Hobbs and Shaw was made by Deadpool 2 director David Leitch with a budget of around $200 million and was released in cinemas in 2019. In addition to the films in the main series, it is one of the most expensive in the career of action star Jason Statham. The sometimes funny verbal battles and sometimes stylish action attracted enough people to the cinema to gross around $760 million. After that, things became quiet around the offshoot. Just this summer, Dwayne Johnson came forward to announce that a new Hobbs film was coming. Jason Statham’s Shaw is not part of it yet.
But we don’t have to shed a tear for Statham. The actor is still a member of the main Fast and Furious series, also has a successful franchise in which he beats up basking sharks and is part of the regular cast of Guy Ritchie thrillers.
