Get ready for the next extremely complicated, but ultimately extremely elegantly executed heist: Warner Bros. wants to bring a new Ocean’s film to the cinema with the original cast. After the franchise was recently designed for spin-offs, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are now being discussed again.
We last reported on the plans for Ocean’s 14 in September. There was already talk of Clooney and Pitt back then. The director attracted even more attention: German Oscar winner Edward Berger was linked to the next Ocean’s film. Apparently things have changed now and there is a new favorite.
Action specialist David Leitch is in discussion as director for Ocean’s 14 with George Clooney and Brad Pitt
As Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, known for his scoops, reports in his newsletter The InSneider, Warner wants one of the most sought-after action directors for Ocean’s 14: David Leitch. What was considered a rumor just a few hours ago has now been confirmed by sources in established industry publications such as Variety, Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.
David Leitch worked as a stuntman and stunt coordinator in Hollywood for a long time before moving behind the camera as co-director of John Wick. Since then he has directed five more action blockbusters: Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train and The Fall Guy. Ocean’s 14 could be next.
Leitch is very popular with major Hollywood studios. He is considered a reliable filmmaker who can work in franchises as well as bring an original idea into one bright blockbuster can transform. Especially with Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, he has proven that he is interested in blockbusters that are as entertaining as possible.
No wonder he was the first choice for the new Jurassic World film before Gareth Edwards took over as director. The Ocean’s series also focuses on entertainment value, even if the action so far has little to do with stunts, chases and explosions. This is more about the elegance mentioned at the beginning.
In addition to Ocean’s 14, another film from the Heist franchise is planned with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling
The first three Ocean’s films were directed by Steven Soderbergh and were released between 2002 and 2007. The first spin-off in the series was released in 2018: Ocean’s 8 with Sandra Bullock. Another spin-off with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, set in 1960s Europe, is also in the works.
Robbie and Gosling are set to play the parents of Danny (George Clooney) and Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) in the film. Jay Roach was mentioned several times as the project’s director. However, there have been no concrete updates in the past few months. Ocean’s 14 may currently be a higher priority at Warner.
