Johannes Vetter is not in the necessary condition for the World Championships starting next week.

German javelin thrower Johannes Vetter will not participate in the World Championships in Eugene. Vetter has suffered from shoulder problems throughout the season and has to miss the races due to an infection.

Vetter, 29, was beforehand one of the javelin world champion candidates. Now one of Finland is missing from the javelin competition by Oliver Helander of the fiercest competitors.

Helander is fourth in the season’s world statistics with a result of 89.83. In Eugene, he will face, among other things, the season’s top result of 93.07 Anderson Peters.

Vetter has not competed in the past season since his season opener in May. At that time, the German threw a result of 85.64.

– It is difficult to say when I will be able to compete again. I need the next few weeks to digest this decision, Vetter says in his publication.

At the moment, there is no information whether Vetter will be able to participate in the European Championships starting on August 11 in Munich.

Two weeks ago, Vetter missed the German championships. Last year, after great expectations, Vetter finished ninth in the javelin final of the Tokyo Olympics.

Vetter’s javelin record is from 2020, when he threw a result of 97.76 in Poland. Vetter won the World Championship gold in 2017 and won the World Championship bronze in 2019.
