At the latest with Die Hard and his performance as John McClane, Bruce Willis became an action icon at the end of the 80s. The successful franchise then brought it to a total of five parts. Die Hard 4.0, the series on a absurdly entertaining new level hob, airs Friday at 8:15 p.m. It’s one of the last big action highlights of Willis’ career.
Die Hard 4 unleashes a firework of grandiosely exaggerated action
In the fourth Die Hard part, John McClane has to take on cyber terrorist Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant), who wants to plunge the United States into complete chaos. Unfamiliar with the latest technologies, McClane involuntarily teams up with tech expert Matthew (Justin Long).
The story is also in this Die Hard part rather secondary. Instead, director Len Wiseman celebrates great exaggerated action that trumps the level of the predecessors again.
This time, Willis’ cult protagonist practically becomes a superhuman superhero as John McClane takes down jet planes with trucks and survives every injury, no matter how critical.
With spectacular set pieces and humor to match, Die Hard 4.0 is a late highlight of the series. In contrast to the miserable sequel Die Hard – A Good Day to Die, which was so poorly received that a planned sixth part was never realized afterwards.
