One in four Britons believe they can compete in the 2028 Olympics

Just over a quarter of all Britons believe they could qualify for the 2028 Olympics if they started training today, according to a new survey.
And most people seem to think that shooting would be their best discipline.

There seems to be no shortage of sporting confidence in the UK. According to one recent survey by the British market research company Yougov, just over one in four Britons, 27 percent, believe they would have time to train to compete in an Olympic event by the next Olympics, in four years’ time.

Above all, there are men who have the confidence to believe that four years of training could make them Olympians. 30 percent of men polled – compared to 25 percent of women – believe they can make an Olympic team by 2028.

And among the youngest respondents, between 18 and 24 years old, the figure is even higher. There, 39 percent believe they would be up to the challenge. In the over-65 group, a more modest 15 percent believe they could compete in the 2028 Olympics.

Air rifle most likely

And it is in the Olympic discipline of air rifle that most people think they could practice their skills in the best. 15 percent of respondents believe they could definitely or probably qualify for air rifle 10 meters by 2028 if they started training today. In the number two and three most likely sports to get good enough at are archery and badminton.

The next Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
