It was at 18:39 on Saturday that SOS-alarm received a call about a smoke-filled stairwell in central Västerås.
– We rushed to the scene and entered an apartment on the third floor with smoke divers, says Kim Hellberg, management operator at the rescue service.
One person was found in the apartment and taken to hospital. A few hours later, the police at RLC Mitt reported that the person had died. Relatives have been notified.
Does not rule out crime
The police cannot rule out crime at the moment. A preliminary investigation into murder and arson has been launched and the scene is cordoned off pending a technical investigation.
