One person is dead, and a stretch of Talbot Line in Elgin County was closed early Thursday morning, following a collision between a cyclist and a vehicle, provincial police say.

Few details were immediately available, but police investigating the collision near Dutton-Dunwich, southwest of London, said the section of Talbot Line between Coyne and Dunborough roads is expected to be closed for hours and that drivers should avoid the area.
The collision occurred at about 5 am It involved a passenger vehicle pulling a trailer that collided with the cyclist. OPP are not releasing the name of the dead person. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, the driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Bystander’s bravery saves Lake Erie swimmer
A Brantford swimmer’s life was saved by what police are calling the “selfless bravery” of a Norfolk County resident.
Emergency services received a 911 call shortly after 7:30 pm Monday about a swimmer in distress in Lake Erie near the Port Dover pier.

“It was determined that a citizen, later identified as a 22-year-old individual from Brantford, Ontario, had jumped into the water but quickly began showing signs of distress and was unable to swim back to safety,” said OPP Cst. Andrew Gamble. “A local resident entered the water and successfully brought the swimmer back to the pier, with no injuries reported.”
Police remind swimmers that life jackets should be worn, regardless of skill levels, and urge people not to swim in areas where no swimming signs are posted.
“Surviving potentially fatal water-related incidents often depends on wearing a life jacket, which, when worn correctly, effectively keeps you afloat throughout your time in the water,” Gamble noted. “Entering the water to assist a distressed swimmer can be dangerous due to the risk of the swimmer pulling the rescuer underwater, strong currents, limited visibility, physical strain, and lack of training.
“Environmental hazards and challenging conditions further heighten these risks.”
