A volunteer firefighter was killed and another injured in a forest fire in northern Morocco, where new blazes broke out after a couple of days of calm.

Firefighters battled the flames through the night, after evacuating villagers.

Fires destroyed roughly 10,500 hectares of forest in the area in mid-July. There is a severe drought in the country, which has been hit by several heat waves in the last month.

The Moroccan government has released the equivalent of SEK 300 million to help the victims of the forest fires and reduce the impact on agriculture.
