A person in his 30s has died and several others have been injured in two different acts of violence on the promenade in Tel Aviv in Israel, reports Haaretz. Israeli media reports both about shooting and that a car is said to have driven into people. Both are said to have occurred at the city’s seafront. A suspected perpetrator is said to have flipped the car before he was shot dead by the police. Israeli authorities describe the incident as a terrorist attack. According to TV4 Nyhetern’s foreign commentator Lisa Grenfors, the Islamist group Hamas has praised the attack on Tel Aviv. “An enormous anger” – Hamas has reason to use this rhetoric that we hear now. There is enormous anger over what happened in the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, says Grenfors. The incident takes place against the backdrop of recent days’ attacks in the area. During the night, large explosions took place in the Gaza Strip and towards morning loud explosions were heard in southern Lebanon. Israel’s military force announces that it has carried out airstrikes against both areas. During Friday, two sisters, with Israeli-British citizenship, were shot dead in a Palestinian attack in the West Bank. “Will strike at our enemies” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then issued a warning. – We will strike at our enemies and they will have to pay a price for every act of aggression, Netanyahu said in a short video statement from a cabinet meeting. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the rocket fire from Lebanon and said the Lebanese military and the United Nations are trying to find the people behind the shelling. The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to persuade Israel to de-escalate the situation. See Lisa Grenfor’s analysis in the player above.
