Port workers warn of Israeli blockade
The Port Workers Union announces a blockade of military equipment to and from Israel.
The blockade, which will come into effect on January 27, takes place according to the federation as a measure of sympathy with the Palestinian trade union movement, due to the war in Gaza.
Exactly which goods will be covered is still unclear, but according to chairman Martin Berg, the association will apply a precautionary principle.
“It does not mean special consideration for the financial interests of Swedish companies and public institutions, but that if we have doubts about goods on the way to or from Israel being of a civilian or military nature, we will refuse to load or unload them,” he says in a press release .

Dozens rescued after months in illegal mining
26 people have been rescued and at least nine dead have been retrieved from an abandoned gold mine in South Africa.
Thousands of people are said to be working in abandoned mines in the country – without permission.
Those picked up on Monday were picked up with a large cage that was sent into the mine near Stilfontein, around 14 miles southwest of Johannesburg. Rescue efforts have resumed on Tuesday.
Thousands of people are said to be working illegally in abandoned mine shafts in South Africa. Attempts to force them out of the Stilfontein mine began in November and there are reports that some of them have been there since last summer.
The authorities claim that the workers can get out but refuse. Human rights groups claim instead that many of the workers die of starvation and cannot climb the steep shaft.
According to the police, there are probably hundreds of people still underground.
On Monday, the government stated that over 1,000 people involved in illegal mining in the area have been surfaced and arrested. Over 100 are believed to have died of starvation or dehydration.

Johan Forssell on Swedish citizenship: “You should feel proud”
Migration Minister Johan Forssell and the special investigator Kirsi Laakso Utvik are holding a press conference on Tuesday morning in connection with the submission of an investigation into stricter requirements for Swedish citizenship.
The reason for the tightened rules is said to be, among other things, that the authorities will have more time to gather information about the applicant.
Through the tightened rules, they also want to raise the status of that citizenship.
– You should feel proud to be a Swedish citizen, says the Minister of Migration.
Another proposal from the investigator is a stricter requirement for honest living. Even today, there are requirements that those who receive Swedish citizenship must have lived an orderly life.
The length of stay will be increased from five to eight years, according to investigator Kirsi Laakso Utvik.
